It is the beginning of the new school year. The students whom I have taught for the past three years are in their final year as high school students. Their eyes were nearly popping out of their heads when they saw how big I have become. Some people have actually expressed shock that I am not due until November. Shorty is handling being at work pretty well. She waits until we are home or until I am sitting in a meeting to begin her tap dancing routines. The kids have also been very kind with their offers of help and their cooperation. It is so interesting to see how this group of 63 students has matured over the course of their adolescence. I have also had multiple offers for free babysitting and every girl wants me to name her after them. I will be returning to school after the birth to finish the school year. I really want to be there to make sure that my kids graduate. After that though, Chris and I are still deciding how we will handle it. There have been discussions about my returning to school for my PhD. in Education or going back to teaching part time. We'll see what happens and figure out what is best for our family then.
My parents came to visit over Labor Day weekend and were a huge help. They helped with putting Shorty's crib together. Now the nursery is starting to look like a nursery. The cats are also loving the crib. We have caught all three of them (not at the same time) in the crib. I'd much rather they get over their fascination with it before Shorty arrives. We still expect to find at least one of them in the crib with Shorty at some point.
We still need to pick up our changing table/dresser and find a glider & bookrack for the room. We have also been buying prints on etsy.comto decorate the room. My favorite so far is an artist that is listed as black apple. My parents also helped out with my flower box in the guest room. My mom has had a green thumb forever and beautiful gardens no matter where she lived. I have more of a brown thumb. She helped with picking out the plants and showing me how to prune them, etc. Now the plants are thriving and growing like mad.
Baby's first party was in full swing this past Friday in Rockford. Chris's mom and sister, Karen & Michelle threw us an amazing little bash at Karen's house. Tons of food, frosty beverages, and paint your onesies were available for all. It was a wonderful time and we feel very lucky to have such great friends and families.
This past week Chris was asked to go to SF for business. I was lucky enough to join him. We were only there for a few days, but it was very nostalgic. We used to live there about 10 years or so ago. We were also able to see the newest addition to the Gray clan in SF, Benjamin Brewer. Shorty handled the long flights pretty well and we walked all over the city while Chris was taking care of business. The following images are from my walks throughout the city.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF - THE STINKING ROSE - An all-garlic establishment!
The Coit Tower area
The Mechanique Musee - This museum was once located at the Cliff House, but was recently moved to Fisherman's Wharf. To go to the museum was a special treat for Chris & I. It is an old penny arcade museum and total joy to find.
We just found out today. It is a baby girl and the anatomy all looks good. Needless to say, we are psyched!
We have found our new apartment. It is about three times the size of the apartment we currently live in and it has an elevator! Yippee, no more walk ups. The stairs have been progressively getting harder and harder and taking longer and longer to get up. I am so relieved that we found the right apartment. It has three bedrooms and two full baths. It has plenty of room for us to grow with a huge kitchen (by nyc standards), a separate living room, and a separate dining room. See photos below. More will be posted as we go. We've also had fun figuring out what to paint each room and finding some new furniture. We found a beautiful sectional sofa at Macy's last weekend. Chris is going to be breaking it in every evening on the chaise section. It screams lounge on me!
The belly has popped in the last week or so and chosen to become extremely obvious. It's weird walking down the street and having people looking at your belly.
I am carrying kind of low and in front. Some say that means I am going to be having a boy. Considering the fact that 95% of our friends have all had boys and only boys, it wouldn't be shocking. We'll hopefully find out for sure on 7/6 at our 20--week sonogram.
I haven't felt Shorty move yet either. Nothing distinctive as baby movement. Not yet.
